At 6am on a Sunday in May I climb a steep field, only pausing when I can see the powerful summit of Pen-y-Fan standing clear above the opposite hill-brow. The sun rises in a cloudless sky and I sit on the grass and start to draw. The land represents continuity, and drawing landscapes is an affirmation of a living tradition.
