Cwmsefin Farm
Cwmsefin Farm is a 170 acre farm holding on the Penpont Estate at the start of a fascinating journey. We are developing the farm in partnership with Action for Conservation to inspire the next generation of environmentalists, farmers and growers. Our goal is to farm with natural processes, enhancing soils and biodiversity, and producing delicious food for our local community.
Guided by detailed surveys of soils, plants and wildlife, we have reintroduced grazing, restored wildflower-rich habitats, restored six ponds, and begun improving streams, woodlands and hedgerows to create a more diverse and resilient landscape. These changes are already supporting a range of wildlife, including species of conservation concern such as the red-listed yellowhammer and willow warbler, while occupied barn owl boxes provide encouraging signs that nature is responding to these efforts.
Alongside this habitat restoration, we have transformed the farm's management. Cwmsefin is now run as a pasture-based regenerative farming system, managed to organic standards and centred around traditional livestock breeds. Our cattle are ouwintered wherever conditions allow, helping to build soil fertility naturally while remaining closely connected to the landscape throughout the year.
