The Courtyard Wing

The self-catering Courtyard Wing can be found to the rear of the main house. It has its own entrance through an enclosed flagged courtyard and can sleep up to 16 people within six bedrooms. The beautifully restored Grade I listed building, which was originally called Abercamlais Isaf, was first built in the 1660’s, is perfect for family gatherings.

There is full central heating throughout, with warmth being provided by the large biomass boiler. The living areas in the Wing have wifi coverage but not all bedrooms have it. 4G is throughout the locale.

  • Ground Floor

The ground floor entrance opens into a spacious coat and boot lobby. The utility room, next to the kitchen and lobby, has a washing machine and fridge freezer as well as storage space. The kitchen/dining room is open plan; it has a large fridge & dishwasher and is well equipped and has a 5 ring gas hob and double electric oven.

  • First Floor

    The Elephant Room: 2 singles

The Old Kitchen: 1 double and 1 single

There are 2 bathrooms with loos on the first floor – one has a bath & shower and the other just a shower. The Sitting Room is also situated on the first floor via a light and airy landing. It’s a large room with 3 sofas and has a Smart TV so people need to bring their own Netflix access codes.

  • Second Floor

    Penry’s Room: 1 double and 2 singles

    The Parrot Room: 1 double

The Bell Room: 1 double and 1 single

The Attic Room: 1 double and 3 singles

There is a shower room, separate WC and a complete separate bathroom with WC, on the second floor.

Outside

In the Courtyard outside, there is a boiler room to dry boots & coats. There is plenty of space to store bikes, buggies etc. in the servants’ hall.

For the warmer and dryer months there are tables and chairs in the courtyard along with a BBQ and home produced charcoal. Leading from the courtyard itself there is a south facing terrace next to the Conservatory (c.1825)

Guests are very welcome to explore the grounds and gardens, and there is plenty of information available about the area and ‘what to do’.

Gavin and Vina are normally on hand to give information on local walks and events.

Farm Shop

In our on-site Farm Shop you’ll find our fresh organic vegetables and fruit from the walled gardens. There is also a freezer full of delicious local organic meat, eggs and Penpont honey and homemade jam and chutneys.

Swim & Fish

There are a couple of deep swimming pools in the river but do bring some old trainers to paddle and swim in. Penpont has the fishing rights to about a mile, both banks, of the River Usk. We stipulate fly only and catch & release. We charge £27.50 per rod per day, and you can book through the Wye & Usk Foundation.

During the summer months, we occasionally open up the Punch & Judy bar for sundowners.

Keep an eye for special evening events - feasts and music - that we put on through the season.

Sauna

Situated on the banks of the river, our wood-fired sauna is crafted from timber harvested from our woodlands and processed on site. The sauna seats up to 8 people, it can be hired privately for a group or we run regular communal sessions. For more information and to make a booking visit our sauna page.

From Otters and Kingfishers in the river, to Kites and Buzzards soaring above, we have wonderful wildlife at here Penpont, which we work hard to protect. We hope you catch a glimpse of something special, please record any sightings on the wildlife spotting board on the farm shop.

Dogs

Due to the wildlife and livestock, we try to limit the number of dogs we allow on site at any one time. With this in mind, if you wish to bring a dog to The Courtyard Wing, please contact us to discuss in advance and we can check availability across the site.

Greenman Maze

Above the main house lives The Greenman Maze. It was planted as a tribute to the new millennium - and sign of renewed hope and resurgence, and it is suggested that it is the largest representation of the Green Man in the world. Great to explore with kids and big kids alike.

BBQ’s & Fires

There is a BBQ & fire pit available for guests to use on the top terrace. There is also a larger communal fire bowl in the stable Courtyard. We sell seasoned bags of logs at £6 / bag – available from the campsite. Please pay in the farm shop. Gather your own fallen kindling and bring some old newspapers & matches.
